These cookies are a result of lot of preparation. I went to the store specifically to get nested heart shaped cookie cutters. The set I got was broken partially, yet I picked it up since I wanted it badly. I went to the supermarket quite far off to pick up Poppins (candy), since none of the nearby shops had it when I needed them.
And I had to hide it from my kid (You have no idea how nosy the elder kid hubby can be when it comes to snacks).
These cookies are special, because were baked for a very special occasion.
It was planned as a gift for my BM mates, for our BM 25 Meet. I finally zeroed down on the cookie recipe, started the work. I handled the dough too much, since its my first cut out cookie – by that, I mean this is the first time I am successful in cutting the cookies out – and not that its my first attempt!
I made the first batch, attacked these before it even cooled down.
And was so disappointed…
The cookies look really nice and beautiful, but I really didn’t like the taste of candy and cookie together. So I didn’t bake anymore, as I felt that it was not worth the effort.
Yet I took a couple of these for the BM meet. And everyone liked it (or were they being just nice?!! :D, I have no idea). Anyway, I thought I will record it here that I tried it. And also that I didn’t like it much. Else two months down the line, I would be exclaiming that I have never tasted these!

Makes: Many, many!
Ingredients:
- All-purpose flour : 3 cups
- Baking powder : 1.5 tsp
- Salt : 1/2 tsp
- Sugar : 1 cup
- Butter : 200 gm
- Milk : 3 tbsp
- Vanilla extract : 1 tsp
- Candy : 1 pkt ( I used Poppins)
Method:
- Bring butter to room temperature. It should be soft. I microwaved the block of butter in 10 sec intervals couple of times at 40% power. If you do this at 100% power, you will have ghee instead of softened butter!!
- Beat butter and sugar together using a hand blender in a big bowl, till soft. Add vanilla essence and milk. Beat again.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder and salt. Add this in batches to the butter mix and bring it all together into a dough, using your hands. You might have to add a little bit of milk, if necessary, if the dough is not coming together.
- If you find that the dough is too soft for rolling, shape it into a disc and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes till its firm. Roll this dough out with a thickness of about 1/4″.
- Separate the candy based on color. Put the same color candies in a ziplock cover and crush it into powder form using a rolling pin.
- Cut out heart or any shape out of the dough using a cookie cutter. Cut another heart from inside this using a smaller cookie cutter.
- Fill the inside heart shape with the candy. Using a toothpick or something similar, spread the crushed candy to fill the inside shape completely, without gaps. This is optional, since candy will melt and spread.
- Bake in a preheated oven, at 180C for 10-15 minutes, keeping an eye on it all the time. Once its baked, let it cool for sometime and gobble them down!
Rajani where were you when God was distributing tastebuds? These were are and will be delicious! Period!
I wish i had got a bite more of these cookies did not get even one at home.

beautifully done! I saw this during Christmas and someone had made them as ornaments for their tree. They stained glass effect was beautifully seen when the sun shined on the tree! Very nicely done!

Rajani, as always you are being more stern on yourself. You know we all loved your cookies right, infact I told you right away how I didn’t get to taste even a small bit after I opened that packed box. And you know what I had showed this picture that I took during the contest and my kids were so interested abt the glass cookies. I had to tell them I didn’t have them. You should surely show us step by step, would love this being done! I can’t actually imagine how you did it, sounds so complicated for my simple brain..LOL

Those cookies definitely have stage presence. Look the click against light. I think I used to like poppins (it’s been ages I had those)

They look pretty. I wish you had step by step pictures for this post. Do you completely cut out the inner (heart) shape and dropped the candy powder? When you bake the candy, doesn’t it stick to the base?

Rajani..I loved those cookies..and you know it!..I guess I was the first one to say that..simply beautiful…even the taste was really good..I guess different taste buds:))..so u did not like them!..trust me they were wonderful..in fact all of them were fantastic!!
