Jam Milkshake

Blogging Marathon #123 Week 4, Day 1
Theme : A-Z recipes – Something sweet

My initial plan for today’s post was to make jaggery dosa. It’s an instant dosa made with wheat flour. It was one of my favorite “after school” food. My grand ma used to make it with ghee and the jaggery dosa would look like chocolate crepe. It was so delicious and my mouth is watering just visiting the memories! The jaggery here in US is light brown the dosa doesn’t look like the one I grew up eating. So it’s been a real long time since I made it.

So coming back to the recipe here, I made this jam milkshake as a way to use up some leftover heavy cream and jam. I took a picture of it before I served it and that came handy for today’s letter ‘J’. The milkshake was really delicious and very filling too. I have never used heavy cream in a milkshake but I won’t hesitate to use it once in awhile. I had read somewhere that you can use heavy cream in place for ice cream if you don’t have any, so I decided to try it. I loved how much more creamier the shake was because of it.

You can add any kind of jam here. Depending on the sweetness of jam, you can add or skip the sugar. I used raspberry preserves which was a little tart, so I added sugar to balance it.

Read on for the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups cold milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or ice cream
  • 2-3 tablespoons jam of your choice
  • 2 tablespoons sugar, optional

Method:

  1. Blend everything together until the milkshake is well combined and a little thick.
  2. Pour into two glasses and drink. You can add some jam to the sides of the glass for a colorful look.

  2. Nice one! Ideal drink for birthday parties . Loved the colour combination too. Even my mother used to prepare sweet dosa using jaggery and cucumber as it is cooling for the summers in Chennai.

  3. Delicious one. I used to have this jam milk without the cream in my childhood days. That used to be my favorite drink. Your post has got me into memory lane.

  4. I have made wheat dosa a couple of times and liked it a lot. Though as such there are no takers for sweet dosa, I surely won’t mind it being served occasionally. On the other hand, my kids love chocolate dosa or crepes..hehehe..I sometimes make it with wheat flour as well. This Jam milkshake is simply stunning, the pictures have turned out so beautifully. I always worry about clicking liquid, looking at your pictures, want to do it.
